How to Make a Healthy Protein Shake!

Commercial protein shakes typically list several toxic, harmful ingredients such as sodium caseinate, calcium caseinate, MSG, sucralose, and soy protein isolate. Why pay for such garbage? Make your own! Check out this recipe for a healthy protein shake by Antonio Valladares of http Be sure to pick up Antonio’s cookbook at healthyurbankitchen.com * Lose Belly Fat * Increase Your Energy * Have Better Sex * Balance Your Hormones

We make this pretty regularly and we love it. It makes a full pitcher, so you can 1/2 the recipe for 1 or 2 people. 1 young thai coconut 2 bananas 2 scoops of raw vegan protein powder 1 heaping T of carob powder 1 T maca powder 1 T agave nectar Ice (the more you add the thicker it gets…YUM! You can add some water to make it thinner)

Wow, that was a really tasty energy shake! I put some stevia in and dropped the sweet fruits, i used some raw organic; maca powder, cacao, cinnamon, tahini, almond butter, 1 banana, 1 egg, fresh untreated organic milk straight from the farmer i buy my milk from.

If that`s not a energy bomb, then what is? :D

i cant trust ppl who preach about protein and dont have any obvious muscles.. you dont have to bee super buff either.

  • PtotheMtotheJ says:

@savagenut That carb-fat-protein ratio is pretty weak.

  • muffemod says:

@star364150lissss did not know that, very helpful thanks

  • star364150lissss says:

@muffemod thats where all the nutrients are, its really amazing what kind of minerals, vitimins and trace minerals are in the yolk when its raw did you know its one of the few foods that actually contains vitimin D! and its highly absorbable this way as the proteins are not denatured

  • muffemod says:

    YOLK ONLY?!?!?!

The belief or faith factor I speak of is that you and those like your place the burden of proof on proving something is unhealthy while those like me place it on proving that it is healthy. You can be the guinea pig for manufactured and processed foods if you choose to do so, but with very controversial topic such as these foodstuffs, I would say those selling these ingredients and products, as well as the FDA, are not to be trusted. It’s about money, not safety.

  • j303 says:

    @gxxr1130

I have found zero primary literature remotely suggesting MSG as an excitotoxin. Glutamate is a natural neurotransmitter and acts as a neurotoxin during extremes such as ischemia or stroke. Sucralose is not an excitotoxin. There’s no literature whatsoever even suggesting that. Give me a scientific source. Not another BS video as this.

There’s a stark difference between belief and rational, scientific evidence. Believe all you want. I prefer facts.

  • gxxr1130 says:

Every source I’ve seen states MSG is an excitotoxin. Perhaps you have found a study that states otherwise, but a single study does not prove something. It could have been biased or poorly done. Soy is also claimed to be toxic by many in the holistic health field. I believe sucralose and also definitely aspartame are among the excitotoxins. UW has many videos on these issues or you google them. If you choose to think they are healthy for some faith based reason that’s your choice/

  • j303 says:

    @gxxr1130

Caseinates are solubilized forms of the milk protein casein, there’s nothing wrong with that. Soy protein isolate and sucralose are self-explanatory, another protein source and a sweetener.

MSG isn’t toxic: “toxicologists have concluded that MSG is a harmless ingredient for most people, even in large amounts.”

I just don’t believe the guy.

Cholesterol isn’t bad and the chance of salmonella is like 1 in 100,000, even lower if you get quality eggs like he does. Or you could fry the hell out of everything and pretend that’s healthier.

  • gxxr1130 says:

oh my god… maybe someone who’s just finished a vigorous workout. Btw, are you a sedentary 100 pound woman or do you enjoy consuming only 900 calories a day? He didn’t put that much into the shake.

  • gxxr1130 says:

Read the video info to answer you question

  • j303 says:

    1) What “neurotoxins” are in these powders?

    2) Proteins get denatured in your stomach…it’s a natural phenomenon and aids in digestion and absorption of proteins.

Where’s the evidence to support your claims? No where.

if you want to eat like this.. you better have a good Income!! lets be realistic

  • aipyor says:

oh my god..thanks for doing this..who would drink almost half a day’s calories on one drink..ridiculous

  • lukerickrob says:

Wow, dude, you are very informed. Lot of info to take in all at once for me, but I am definitely listening!

  • pbmaniac51 says:

its 1 our of 3 eggs contains salmonella..but unless your old or really young. as long as your healthy. theres nothing to worry about

  • NotMarkk says:

Cholesterol isn’t bad, check his other vids.

@crm000 – How ironic that there are 3 zero’s in your name. You’re in your 30′s and you wrote “You’re Dumb” on Youtube… stellar. I know that stevia is from a plant, you don’t have to go to the library to figure that one out. I said I didn’t like the way it tasted. For others looking to try Jay Robb Protein, if you use a half a scoop instead its taste is way less potent; add some other form of protein to make up the difference.

  • xrynxedgex says:

you are so use to sugar, sucralose, fructose. sucks for you

  • xrynxedgex says:

    EGG YOLK = Cholesterol!!!

RAW EGG YOLK = Colesterol + possible salmonella.

I tried the vegan lifestyle for a while. It was not for me… I was open to try it because I care for animals as well as for my health, but during this time I did not FEEL my strongest. Then I read the “Vegetarian Myth”. If you’re going to involve your kids in this lifestyle.. I would do some more research on the counter arguments of being vegan. The book I mentioned really opened my eyes.. Strongly recommend it. I personally believe the Paleo diet lifestyle is the way to go.. Please look it up!

  • MindofaJedi says:

Not to sound like a jerk , but I’m going vegan for my health , animals are secondary in the decision . I like animals , I just want to be healthy . If eating pork chops was great for you , I would eat them . I was under the misconception that you need a lot of protein to be strong . I have recently come to realise this is not true .

Maca is an adaptogen & hormone balancing root from peru. Carob is a non stimulant chocolate substitute. Both can be found at the health food store in different departments. Just ask (or online). Young Thai Coconuts are found at asian markets.

  • xjxexwxexlxsx says:

what’s maca & carob powder and where can i find them as well as young thai coconut? t/y!

  • StrangeFlavoredRey says:

I know what you mean, I mean, in my opinion although it’s gaining popularity, it just seems like it wouldn’t happen. General vegetarianism and health awareness is definitely picking up, QUICK. Vegn is just too ‘unknown’ for some. I’m not going to say that me being a vegan – I’m better or anything like that. Nor would I ever try to convince ppl it is better. Ppl get offended and turned off like that; I just bring up the facts if somebody brings up the topic – subtlety is key.

  • ieatsalad90 says:

cutest kids. thinkin about this for breakfast tomorrow. :)

  • Priyam108 says:

so sun warrior is the protein powder you use, correct? do you ever use anything else like hemp powder? thanks

  • cellulitelove says:

your kids look radiant. I wish my parents were vegan but they are very stubborn.

  • Inspire2Act says:

    12 and 10

  • dogsarebetter says:

    how old are your kids?

  • KARINinLaLaLand says:

raising kids as vegan…im doing the same..you know i think in the future vegans will take over and there will be no more harm done to animals- there are more and more ppl turning vegan…..i think its a possibility or forgive me for dreaming

  • chevon1920 says:

Cool video. You’re kids look like twins.

Does it taste like chocolate? I’m afraid to try the carob root powder. I’m trust that its tasty cause your kids like it, unless they have very advanced taste buds.

  • swissbank1m says:

Great children, great video. Thanks for posting.

  • Inspire2Act says:

I put 2 scoops of sun warrior protein in this pitcher since I share it with my kids. A single serving of sun warrior protein contains 16 grams (this is not including protein in the bananas, coconut, etc).

  • Bemusedchicken says:

how much protein is in a serving? do you know? looks like something to try…

  • Inspire2Act says:

    Aww… thank you

Thanks! for the reply! I have been vegan for 10 months and now working on eating a raw vegan diet.

We went Vegan a little over a year ago. I read them the book “Skinny Bitch”, but I modified the language. That was enough to make the change.

  • deefunny says:

I have to try this on my grandchildren…Have your children always been vegans!
